Now let’s jump in!

We’re going to start today’s episode by talking about the world premiere of “Lightyear, Pixar’s new movie. Chris Evans, known for his role as Captain America, is now Buzz Lightyear, in the animation that is a prequel to the Toy Story franchise.

Evans said in an interview to ET Online that delivering Buzz’s most famous line, “To infinity and beyond” was genuinely nerve-wracking.

“Because it’s something that we all know from someone else,” the actor said, referring to Tim Allen’s delivery of the line as Buzz Lightyear in the previous movie. “So it’s big shoes to fill, and you want to put your own interpretation on it, but you also have to make sure you pay homage to what we all know and what we all love.”

While being part of the Toy Story universe, Lightyear is not technically a Toy Story movie. It’s a take on an origin story for the toy character. According to Angus MacLane, animator and director of the movie, he’s always been drawn to the character, and curious about the world of the Space Rangers and the world of Star Command, of which Buzz Lightyear is part of.

Lightyear marks the Pixar’s return to the big screens after several of its animated films heading straight for Disney+ due to COVID-19. And the box office didn’t disappoint. The previews brought in $5.2 million. The Thursday previews. You know, just one day. $5.2 million. No big deal. Despite being banned in more than a dozen countries over an animated same-sex kiss, tracking suggests that Lightyear could secure an opening weekend gross of $70 million to $85 million at the domestic box office.

Nesse caso, “estressante”

Now let’s talk about Anitta, because the woman is a powerhouse, and she might just take over the world. On Friday, the singer announced her European tour through Instagram. She’ll be performing in huge musical events: Rock in Rio Lisboa, and the Swedish and French Lollapalooza. The tour, “Euro Summer 2022”, starts this month, with her first show happening in Ibiza.

The singer will perform in Spain, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, France and Switzerland, before ending the tour on July 17th, at the Meo Mares Vivas Festival in Portugal.

Anitta is the first Brazilian singer to have a statue at the famous Madame Tussauds Museum in New York, and her international career continues to grow.

Last Thursday, June 16th, she was a guest at The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she made the host burst out laughing with some of her fan stories. Telling silly stories and making hosts and presenters laugh is the “method” the artist is employing to captivate fans further, in Brazil and internationally.

And, for our final story of today, let’s talk about Elon Musk’s deal with Twitter. In a past episode (que você pode ouvir no nosso portal, fluencytv.com, o link tá na descrição) we talked about how Tesla’s founder was fighting tooth and nail to be able to buy Twitter.

He has since changed his mind… A couple of times. While it seems like he wants out of the deal, he is still thinking about the changes he wants to make to the social media. In a meeting on Thursday with Twitter employees, contents of which were leaked to reporters, Musk talked about his ideas, that involve firing employees, TikTok-like features and perhaps, a “sarcasm” button.

Twitter employees asked repeatedly about whether they’ll be able to work from home, getting a promise from Musk that “exceptional” workers can remain remote. He repeated, however, hints that Twitter will cut jobs to make more money. That plan sits alongside tactics like upselling Twitter users on subscriptions and adding TikTok-style algorithmic recommendations, not to mention payment processing.

Right now, talks are still happening, and the future of the social media app is still unsure. Musk’s vision, however, seems to have changed. It went from freedom of speech and liberty of expression, to “get a billion users and become wildly profitable.” Well, that is a change in vision, alright.

Você já viu a expressão “fight tooth and nail”?

Alright, now it’s time to end today’s episode. Fluency News comes to you weekly, so don’t forget to check back next week! In the meantime, we have a bunch of other free content for you to check out, so head over to fluencytv.com if you haven’t alright.

I hope you’re having a great day, and a great week, and I’ll see you again really soon. Peace.
